Your Responsibilities

As a Qualified Gardener – Parks Landscapes, you will assist with the maintenance and presentation of Hamilton’s parks and reserves, ensuring all work meets contract and safety standards. Your duties include:

Parks & Landscape Maintenance

  • Maintain mixed shrubberies, garden beds, playgrounds, and reserves
  • Carry out routine gardening and landscape upkeep
  • Assist with general park and reserve maintenance tasks

Plant Care & Pest Control

  • Identify, manage, and control plant pests and diseases
  • Spray herbicides, fungicides, and insecticides safely and accurately
  • Apply agrichemicals in accordance with regulations and best practices

Equipment & Teamwork

  • Operate and maintain gardening tools, plant, and equipment (including RTVs and spray equipment)
  • Work independently and as part of a wider parks team when required
  • Follow job specifications, schedules, and safety procedures

Skills and Requirements

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • New Zealand Certificate in Horticulture Services (Level 3) Amenity or similar
  • At least 2 years’ experience in shrubberies and perennial garden maintenance
  • Strong knowledge of amenity plants and landscape maintenance
  • Experience preparing and applying agrichemicals
  • Ability to identify and manage plant pests and diseases
  • Knowledge of gardening tools, plant, and machinery operation
  • Current Full New Zealand Driver Licence
  • Good attention to detail and physical fitness
  • Ability to work independently and outdoors in all conditions
  • Clear understanding of Health and Safety standards
